Homeschool Group Classes

Having homeschooled my own five children for the past 14 years has forever given me a heart for the homeschooling community.  I have had the delight and pleasure creating and teaching several homeschool classes in my studio and look forward to designing more in the future!

Karate Recorder Level 1

Mondays/10 sessions       Sept 16- Nov. 25      1:30-2:30 pm

What is Recorder Karate?
Recorder Karate is a self-paced recorder instruction method that teaches basic techniques used in wind instruments through nine folk songs.  In addition, students learn to be musically literate and what it means to be a contributing member of an instrumental ensemble.

What goes on during class?
During class, students learn the skills necessary to read the notes of the Treble Clef as well as rhythmic patterns and breathing techniques.  Each of the songs that students play for their tests is also taught and rehearsed in class.

What are the tests?
Students are given the opportunity to attempt a test during our regular class sessions each week.  Each playing test asses the student's ability to play on pitch and with rhythmic accuracy.  The students were each given a copy of the music that is required to play for their belt.  Students will be able to practice with an online track at home to assist in timing and rhythm.

Once the student has shown, through a playing test, that he/she is capable of playing the assigned song, the student is awarded a "belt" (similar to that awarded for passing a Karate test).  The student then ties the belt onto his/her recorder.

Students will have the option of performing with Surrey Homeschool Choir at our local senior's home concert.
